What you will experience on your tour

Walk amongst the vines and taste the wine from Auckland’s largest Vineyard and most technologically advanced wine making facility Villa Maria Estate. Their state of the art bottling line can process an incredible 12,500 bottles per hour. The Auckland Ihumatau Vineyard produces award winning Chardonnay, Albãrino and Gewürtztraminer.

They also produce a  number of red wines made form grapes grown on their various Hawkes Bay vineyard sites, some in the Gimblett Gravels.

There are several fascinating video presentations on the techniques and processes used in the tasting room. The video presentation gives an excellent overview on the various aspects of their operation from Viticulture to Vinification, blending and bottling.  Choose your tasting selection from Private Bin Wines,  Cellar Selection  or Premium reserve and Single Vineyard tastings. These range between $10pp – $25pp for the very best, often with aged red varietals and blends that are a once in a lifetime chance to taste.

In the afternoon we visit three of the Vineyards or wineries in Kumeu and Waimauku. Depending on the group size 45 minutes is allocated at each stop. Soljans estate established in 1937 produce estate Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinotage. The Hawkes Bay vineyards supply Syrah, Cabernet and Malbec. Marlborough provides Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewurtztraminer, while Gisborne provide the fruit for their popular sparkling Muscat. The Tawny Port is always on tasting – Tasting Fees $10pp.

West Brook have a stunning vineyard and property and produce wide range of award winning wines both from their Waimauku Estate including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Malbec as well as varieties like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough and Syrah from Hawkes Bay – James Rowan has been winekmaker there form many years and can claim a number of Gold medals and Trephys, he is a lso a widely respected wine Judge at the New Zealand International Wine Show – Tasting Fees $10pp.

Next we visit the Hunting Lodge winery. You can taste their excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Albarino, Pinot Noir, superb Syrah and Bordeaux style blend amongst several others including lesser known varieties like Legrein from the valleys of the Tyrol in Northern Italy. Great bistro style menu with wood fired pizza, cheese & antipasto platters and much much more alongside an extensive range of local and guest Kraft beers in bottle or on tap. – Tasting Fees $10 – 15. 

Depending on the day we may also visit Kumeu River Wines, where they produce world class Chardonnay from their local Estates, or Coopers Creek who have a large portfolio of Rose’, Whites and Reds from vineyards in Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Marlborough ad their superb Montepulciano grown on their Huapai Estate

At the conclusion of the tour you can be delivered with your luggage to Auckland Domestic or International Airport for NZ$30pp payable to the driver on the day.
